Just make the realise that this sister/brother brother/brother sister/sister bond is something special and unique. (get fed up of being shown what to do or told what to do...) &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;I get involved if they start shoving/pushing/hitting but luckily this isn't very common. The human mind identifies with such concepts through both music and abstract number ability (i.e. an ability to recognize natural phenomenon).  What is your goal?  Do you want your kids to excel at math and have an advantage over others?  Or are you trying to create well balanced human beings for the future? Those skills should be automatic - like checking the mirror or applying the clutch when changing gear. I am not a big fan of rote learning so haven't been too keen on times tables practice that some parents subscribe to. chanting them out in the car while driving... realising there is more than one way to solve a problem seems an important lesson to get across. One I tend to try and push. In fact, I started tracking what my daughter did and didn't eat on: http://feedingafinickyfamily.blogspot.com &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;I simply have on hand at all times: oatmeal (letting her put her own brown sugar on with a tiny little spoon), mini-pancakes, and pre-cooked bacon. If she doesn't want the above (whichever one I offer on a given day) she can have a smoothie. Vitamin filled, and a guaranteed compromise. My 10 year old daughter has outgrown that and is now into www.girlsense.com - where she can create fashions and sell them in an ebay like store for credits.  it's a great learning for her to see what sells, what doesn't, who copies her designs, etc. There has been 1 instance of someone trying to chat to her inappropriately but when I emailed the site, they got back to me immediately and dealt with the situation. Problem is having a husband who introduces them to way more exciting games. dare I mention them... I hope they are ok. I despair at times. They do still enjoy playing games on the cartoon network site. Activities are great, but so is the ability to amuse oneself. &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;I get the impression busy is regarded as best by a lot of parents. Get the children organized into after school activities. Never let them get bored. But in the process they ensure kids are unable to cope when not organized. They constantly need stimulating activities and aren't able to blob out, or just play on their own.  &lt;BR/&gt;&lt;BR/&gt;We have busy days, blob days and kids seem to appreciate both equally.
